How it works

  1. Pixel-art trading card: Kaelan the Laser Knight. Power 8, speed 7, stealth 4, brains 9, luck 6 out of 10. Item: Crystal Orb.

    Your connection picks your hero

The network block of your IP address, your provider, your device and your browser pick one of 12 heroes. Same connection, same hero, every visit.

  2. Pixel-art trading card, Midnight Edition: Kaelan the Laser Knight. Power 8, speed 7, stealth 4, brains 9, luck 6 out of 10. Item: Crystal Orb.

The moment you visit picks the edition

The time of day, the date and a daily roll decide the card’s edition: Standard, Holo, Gold, Midnight and a few rarer ones. The hero stays the same. Only the outfit changes.

  3. The back of a hero card.

    Collect them all

Your phone on mobile data, the Wi-Fi at work and another browser can each turn up a different hero. The ones your own networks never give you, get from friends’ shared cards.

The heroes

12 heroes

Common heroes turn up anywhere. Uncommon and rare ones lean on something about your connection, or on pure luck. Mr. Proxy and Whisper never turn up by chance at all.

Card editions

7 editions

Your hero never changes. Its card edition does. The edition is the frame and finish of the card, picked by when you visit. When several apply at once, the card shows the rarest one.

How to catch more

  1. Open the site on your phone, on mobile data

A different network can mean a different hero. Phones also bring Captain Barnacle out more often.

  2. Try another browser

Your browser is part of the pick, and it decides the item on the card.

  3. Visit from work, school or a café

Every network is a new pick. The coffee is optional.

  4. Turn on a VPN for Mr. Proxy

He only shows up behind VPNs and data centres. Turn it off again and your usual hero comes back.

  5. Come back tomorrow

Holo and Gold come from a daily roll, once a day at midnight your time. Refreshing does not reroll it.

  6. Stay up late

Between midnight and 5 am, your time, every card is a Midnight Edition.

  7. Ask friends for their cards

A shared card shows their hero and edition. Some heroes are easier to meet on someone else’s network.

Event calendar

Limited editions only exist on certain dates, by your own local time. Add them to your calendar and the calendar will remember for you.

Frequently asked questions

Does refreshing the page help?

No. Your hero comes from your connection, so a reload gives the same one. Holo and Gold come from a daily roll that runs once a day, at midnight your time, and the result stays put until then. The next chance is tomorrow.

Is my IP address stored?

No. The address is read from the request, used to pick your hero and draw the card, and then forgotten. The card and its share link contain only the hero, its edition, five stats, an item, a made-up EXP number and your country, never your IP address. Details are in the privacy policy.

Why did my hero change?

Your hero is picked from your network block, your provider, your device and your browser. Another Wi-Fi, mobile data, a VPN, a different browser or a new address from your provider can all mean a different hero. Go back to the old setup and the old hero comes back.

What is the difference between a hero and an edition?

The hero is who your connection is, and it stays the same on the same network, device and browser. The edition is the card’s frame and finish, and it depends on when you visit: the time of day, the date and a daily roll. When several editions apply at once, the card shows the rarest.

What do the hints mean?

Common and uncommon heroes and editions say exactly how to get them. Rare ones only get a riddle. Legendary ones stay a secret, with a single line to go on.
